Massey Hall presents
Undergoing two major throat surgeries would sideline even the boldest of singers. But rather than folding, Emma-Lee rose up, releasing her jazzy debut album Never Just a Dream in 2008 and the country-tinged pop disc Backseat Heroine last year. Onstage, Emma-Lee flits from sultry to poignant to playful effortlessly, drawing her audience in with the same sophisticated style that has made her a prized collaborator of musicians such as Jesse Cook and Jill Barber, and a frequent contributor to the soundtracks of shows like Saving Hope and Degrassi.
Emma-Lee is more than familiar with the genius of folk singer Peter Katz—she joined him on "It Was You," a gorgeous number off his new album, Still Mind Still. And she’s not his only industry fan: past allies include Glen Hansard (The Swell Season), Melissa McClelland and The Good Lovelies, all of whom contributed to Katz’s 2010 album, First of the Last to Know. A touring junkie, Katz plays more than 150 dates a year—all the better to woo fans with his trademark soulful, soaring sound.
